Is your garden furniture autumn ready?
Autumn brings its own beauty and it’s still wonderful to be outside enjoying the fresh air. As you start to prepare your gardens for autumn, include protection of your outdoor furniture as part of this seasonal process. Bramblecrest furniture is designed with low maintenance and longevity in mind; a few simple steps taken now will help to keep your furniture ship shape and ready for spring.
Whether your furniture is rattan or aluminium, store furniture cushions away in
a well-ventilated garage or outbuilding – you could put them in one of our
cushion bags or leave them loose. Make sure they are dry when you put them away
and be aware of mice and other nibbling pests.
We advise that cushions are stored inside during prolonged periods of non-use.
If short of space and they have to be stored outside in one of our cushion boxes, check at least once a week to ensure there is no damp, mildew
or rodent damage. Also consider buying a winter cushion box cover to add
further protection from the elements.
For rattan furniture, use a soft brush to clear away any leaves or garden
debris. If there are any dirty marks on the rattan or table top, clean with a
cloth and warm soapy water. When dry, cover the furniture with the appropriate cover for your furniture set.
For aluminium furniture,
clean the frame and table top with a soft cloth and warm soapy water. As the
aluminium is powder-coated, it will not rust so can be left outside to
elements. However, if you wish to protect it from garden debris and passing
birds (!), it can be covered with our furniture covers as before.
Parasols should be closed and covered with a parasol cover when the canopy is
dry. Best to store indoors during prolonged periods of non-use, especially if
situated in an exposed location.
Teak tables and benches should be left uncovered. Due to the natural properties
of teak, the furniture will mellow to a silver grey colour.
Our covers are made from a highly durable, tear resistant Ripstop fabric with a
water repellent coating. They feature a buckle to ensure they are secure in the
wind and mesh air vents to prevent trapped moisture. These easy to fit covers
are available from our online shop or from your Bramblecrest
stockist. When using furniture covers, remember to check from time to time that any pooled areas of
rainwater are pushed off.
