5 Tips for Styling a Summertime Table

There’s nothing quite like British summertime for embracing, and enjoying, outdoor living. Whether you have a spacious garden, cozy terrace, or compact balcony, with a few tips and tricks you can create a stunning and inviting outdoor table setting to enjoy all summer long.

1. Get Creative with Colour

Add easy summer style into your table setting by incorporating seasonal colours. Choose tones to complement your natural surroundings and which capture the spirit of summer. Start with tablecloths, or placemats, in shades like citrusy yellow, oceanic blue, or foliage green. For more impact, layer with colourful napkins and glassware in the same palette. Incorporating bolder and vibrant hues will instantly bring a lively and energetic feel to your dining set up.

2. Nurture with Nature:

Natural elements such as fresh flowers, potted plants, or even small herb gardens make eye-catching centerpieces. Arrange a bouquet of wildflowers in a rustic vase or use bottle vases of different heights to display single stems. Natural materials like bamboo, rattan, or wooden trays to serve your delicious summer treats will add a more organic feel, connecting your tablescape to its surroundings.

3. Play with Patterns:

Mix and match different textures in your tablecloth and napkins. Linen , cotton and burlap add depth and interest both visually and to the touch. Opt for patterned tableware, such as plates, bowls, or serving platters, to introduce a playful element. Stripes, botanical prints, or geometric patterns work particularly well for summertime tablescapes. Don't be afraid to combine different patterns, just keep to a common color palette to maintain a cohesive look.

4. Add Ambiance:

As the sun sets and gives way to the summer evening, light and warmth become crucial elements in creating the perfect mood for you and your guests. To set the scene, drape festoon lights above your table, or wind around low hanging branches, for a cosy and intimate atmosphere. Finish with lanterns and dinner candles laid along the table for a pretty, flickering glow.

For an added sense of theatre, the light and warmth from our firepits provide a magical feel, especially when the griddles are used to cook right at the table.

5. Consider Comfort:

If you want to linger over brunch, lunch or supper, comfort is key. Seating with thick, supportive cushions and cushion backs will keep your guests feeling content, long after the last dish is served. Whilst scatter cushions will add some additional propping, softness and styling. And don't forget to provide shade with parasols to shield your guests from the scorching sun. Combine form and functionality for an outdoor table setting that is both visually pleasing and practical for summertime gatherings.

Styling your outdoor dining table is a delightful way to create a welcoming and inviting space for entertaining family and friends. By embracing seasonal colours, flowers and patterns you can transform your outdoor dining table into a stunning summer tablescape.
